The original Siberian Huskies that Leonhard Seppala brought to Poland Spring, Maine in the 1920's are different than their show dog cousins of today in many

The handsome dog pictured above is my Seppala lead dog, Pirate.  Pirate is a "command leader." He will hold his team straight, and he knows his commands to gee (turn right) and haw (turn left). He can be counted on to get you down the trail and safely back. Pirate is an asset to his heroic Seppala bloodline that helped save the people of Nome, Alaska in 1925.

I would like to thank Jonathan Hayes of Fort Kent, Maine for not only giving me the opportunity to own Pirate, but for much of the research that you see here on these pages regarding Seppalas.  It is dedication such as his that keeps this heroic canine bloodline alive and well for generations to enjoy.
